Watercolor Background Christmas Cards

Welcome to the July Creativity Abounds Blog Hop. We are a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators who gather from around the world to bring you a monthly blog hop, a PDF tutorial and stamp camps. We love to make cards and inspire others to make cards as well.

This month we are bringing you Christmas in July with holiday cards and/or packaging. Water color backgrounds are one of my favorite ways to make cards so that’s what I’ve prepared for you this month.

The toughest part of this card is drying the watercolor background. The ink “smooshing” technique is both easy and quick. Once you squeeze a drop of re-inker (Pretty in Pink on this card) in your desired color on your glass mat, spritz the dot to add water. Mix the water and ink a bit and then tap your Fluid 100 watercolor paper onto the puddle. Repeat to make the splotch on your paper bigger, if desired.

Once that is dry you stamp your images onto the background. To keep with the watercolor look, my images were inked and then spritzed with water before stamping. I chose Misty Moonlight for both the stamping and the card stock. The sentiment is from the Bauble Blooms stamp set and also used Misty Moonlight ink.

A little bit of Misty Moonlight matting under your watercolor paper and a Pretty in Pink card base finish off the front of your card nicely. To finish off the inside, a stamped image was added to the Basic White mat.

Here is another example of this watercolor background with Early Espresso trees cut from Two Tone card stock. I cut one set of trees with the dark side facing up and one with the light side face up.

The sentiment on this card is from Peace On Earth- a stamp set that will be released in September with the new mini catalog. This card also has a bunch of Early Espresso ink splattered on it. A sprinkle of Strawberry Slush & Pretty in Pink gems finish this card off.

Join me this month for my Card Class in the Mail- All Occasion Stamp-a-Stack. We’ll make 8 cards (2 of 4 designs) so you’ll have a supply of cards on hand for all occasions. For August we will use the Inspiring Imperfections stamp set.

Cost is $35.00 (local) or $40 (by mail) or free with a minimum of a $50 order (before taxes and shipping and after any Stampin’ Rewards are applied).

Two options – in person or by mail.

In Person – class will be held on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.
By mail – Zoom will be held on the last Tuesday of the month at 3 pm. The class will be recorded and the replay available via YouTube if you can’t attend the class. You can substitute stamp sets or add the stamp set/punch to your order and use your own inks.

There is the option to add on the stampset or bundle. You can choose to add the stamp set ($19) or the stamp set and punch bundle ($42.25). Shipping will be on me!
