Welcome to the Technique Squad Blog Hop for October. We are focusing on using Stencils this month. Stampin’ Up! tends to call Stencils masks and they have some very popular ones right now. I decided to go a bit roque and make my own stencil.
I used the large die from the Two Tone Flora Bundle to make two cards from the same “stencil.”

The card on right was created with a stencil over the piece of Very Vanilla that you see. I used blending brushes to add several colors. Then I ran it through an embossing folder.
The card on the left uses the stencil itself on the card front. This is the piece that I rubbed the color “through” for the card above.
Which card do you prefer? I think I prefer the one with the stencil itself and the frame around it.

Instructions for the Card with Hexagon Punch
- Cut an Old Olive card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score it at 4 1/4″.
- Use a bit of “rolled” scotch tape to adhere a 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock to your work surface. Then lay the stencil over it. (To make the stencil run the die shown above through your Cut & Emboss machine with a piece of Very Vanilla cut 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. ) Tape it in place.
- Gently apply ink in swirling motions. I started with Old Olive and tried to do all of the leaves. Then apply Daffodil Delight ink, Pumpkin Pie, and Cajun Craze to the different flowers.
- Remove the stencil from the top. Save for the second card.
- Trim the colored piece to 5 1/4″ x 4″.
- Adhere a 1/2″ x 4″ piece of Old Olive on the left side.
- Run this piece through your Cut & Emboss machine inside the Countryside Blossoms Embossing Folder.
- Adhere to the front of the card base.
- On a piece of Daffodil Delight stamp the sentiment from the Heartfelt Hexagon bundle with Cajun Craze ink. Punch with the Hexagon punch.
- Use the Bough Punch to punch an Old Olive bough and a Cajun Craze stem of flowers.
- On a piece of 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Very Vanilla card stock, stamp Let’s Eat Cake in Old Olive. Add a sprig of green/flower to the lower left.

Instructions for the Framed Card
- Cut an Old Olive card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″.
- Trim the stencil you used to create the first card to 5 1/4″ x 4″ and then adhere to the card front.
- With a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Daffodil Delight card stock, use the 2nd largest Deckled Rectangle die to cut out a frame from the center.
- Pop this up on dimensionals on the card front.
- From the inside of the frame, die cut a circle using the 4th smallest Deckled Circle die. Trim the right side and bottom so you can tuck it under the frame in the bottom right corner.
- Before adhering it in place, stamp “dear friend” from Phrases for All in Old Olive.
- On a scrap of Old Olive, stamp two leaves from the Two Tone Flora Bundle and use the die to cut them out. Adhere to the corner.
- On a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Very Vanilla, stamp “sending hugs & love when words aren’t enough” in Old Olive.
- Adhere this to a 5 3/8″ x 4 1/8″ piece of Daffodil Delight card stock and adhere both to the inside of the card.
- Add three Old Olive Adhesive Backed Speckled Dots.
