Welcome to the Technique Tuesday Blog Hop. Today we are hopping with the theme of Single Layer Cards. These cards will have only a card base- no mats, no die cuts, no patterned paper added to the front.
I have created a card with the wonderful new Sunrise Sailing bundle.

Even though the card is one layer, I used the dies to mask off the sailboat while I created the ocean it was sailing in. Can you spot a couple of new 2025-2027 In Colors? The boat is stampe in Secret Sea and the stripes on the sail are Strawberry Slush. The sentiment is perfect for any new beginning- graduations, retirment or new job!
Here’s the detail on the inside of the card.

I stamped the boat off TWICE on scrap paper and then stamped inside the card with Secret Sea. The sentiment is stamped in full strength Secret Sea.
instructions for the Sunrise Sailing Great things card
- Fold and burnish an 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ Thick Basic White card base scored at 4 1/4″.
- Stamp the sailboat in Secret Sea ink. Stamp the sail detail in Strawberry Slush.
- Fill in the bottom of the sailboat with the appropriate stamp an Secret Sea ink, too.
- Die cut a sailboat and the decorative edge/wave die along the long side on a piece of Masking Paper.
- Remove the release paper from the boat and stick it to your sleeve a couple of times to remove some stickiness. Place it over the sailboat.
- After removing some stickiness from this piece of masking paper, place the decorative edge piece so that the top portion of the card base is masked off and you can blend ink from part way up the sail to the bottom edge of the card. (See the video if unsure.)
- To make the water, blend Summer Splash and Azure Afternoon ink on the bottom portion of the card.
- Stamp the “boat reflection” squiggles in Azure Afternoon. Add the other wavy lines in stamped off Azure Afternoon ink.
- Remove your masking paper carefully.
- Punch a small circle in another piece of masking paper and use the outline of the circle to mask off the “sun.”
- Use Timid Tiger ink with a bit of Daffodil Delight to color the sun.
- Remove the masking paper.
- Stamp the sentiment in Secret Sea directly over the sun.
- Add three sea gulls stamped in Secret Sea.
- Stamp the sailboat in the inside of the card after stamping off twice on a piece of scrap paper.
- Stamp congratulations right over the tip of the sail.
