Reverse Masking with Botanical Layers

Reverse Masking is a fun, easy technique that will help you create a card that WOWs your friends and family.

Here’s What you need:

-Grab a 2 dies that have “nested” sizes such as Deckled Circles, Deckled Rectangles, or any other similar styles.

– 2 pieces of Basic White 5 1/4″ x 4″

-Card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″

-2 colors of ink

-blending brushes

Your larger die will make the mask. On a piece of Basic White, die cut with the larger of the two dies.

Place this mask on top of the 2nd piece of Basic White. Use low tack tape to hold the mask in place.

Using 2 colors that you like together and blending brushes, ink blend inside the cut out shape. When pleased with your background, remove the mask carefully.

Stamp images and a sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. (I prefer to use a solid image stamp but any stamp will work. ) TIP: Stamp outside the ink blended area, too.

Using the smaller of the two dies, place the die in the center of your blended area and die cut.

Adhere the “frame” piece to your card base (8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored at 4 1/4″) on dimensionals.

Carefully place the inside piece into the center, lining up the images and adhere to the card front.

Add a few gems of your choice and your card is complete!
