Welcome to the October Technique Tuesday Blog Hop. Today we are showcasing Partial Die Cutting. This is a technique that looks difficult but really isn’t. It can be a bit tricky however, to get the partial die cut exactly correct the first time. (You may want to allow yourself a practice run with “not so favorite” supplies.)
I used the Decorative Trees bundle and the Deckled Circle dies to make this O Christmas Tree card.

The details of the Decorative Trees bundle make this card shine. I love the overlays for the trees. Don’t forget to use your Adhesive Sheets when die cutting these. It makes adhering them so easy!
Here’s another one I made with this bundle.

I can’t decide if I like the snowflake or the plaid better. I think I”m leaning toward the snowflake. How about you?
Here is the inside.

instructions for O christmas tree card
- Cut a Night of Navy card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″. Burnish.
- On a piece of 5 1/4″ x 4″ Basic White, partially die cut the Christmas Tree with the outline die.
- Tip: Achieve a partial die cut by only putting the top plate over the part of the tree that you want to cut out. I did not cover the last set of branches or trunk. (See video for demonstration.)
- Run this through your Cut & Emboss Machine.
- Carefully place the Deckled Circle die behind the tree while centering it. (I used the 7th from the center.) Run this through your Cut & Emboss machine. Leave room for the sentiment at the top.
- Cut a piece of Silver Foil to fit the detail die of your choice and add an adhesive sheet to the back. (See video if you are unfamiliar with using these sheets.) Run through your Cut & Emboss machine.
- Adhere to the tree.
- Stamp your sentiment with Night of Navy ink on the top and stamp the “lines” across the bottom.
- Stamp Stars randomly on the front of the card base with White ink in the area where the NIght of Navy will show behind the Christmas Tree.
- Use lots of dimensionals to pop up this Basic White die cut piece on the front of the card base.
- On the inside Basic White mat (5 1/4″ x 4″ ) stamp “May Your Days Be Merry” as well as the “lines.”
- Adhere to the inside.
- Add three or five Iridescent Faceted Gems.
You can watch a replay here and see all the tricks to make a Partial Die Cut card easily. (And even see how you can get fooled!)
