While I don’t send a lot of Happy New Year cards there are a few I send every year. Recently I was reminded of the Bokeh background technique and thought that would give the feel of lights and the halo that’s created when you take a photo. It seemed to make a great background for this Nothing’s Better Than Happy New Year card and the Crafty Collaborations Happy New Year blog hop.
The Crafty Collaborations Team is comprised of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in several collaborative projects, including Blog Hops, like this one, to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.
INstructions
- Cut a piece of Fresh Freesia card stock 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″.
- Cut a mat of Fresh Freesia 5 1/4″ x 4″.
- Cover the mat with ink applied with blending brushes. For this card I used Night of Navy, Blackberry Bliss, Balmy Blue and a bit of Daffodil Delight inks.
- Using Layering Circle dies or punches make three different sized holes in a piece of scrap paper. Lay this randomly over your mat to color in the white circles.
- Color the white circles with White Craft ink refill pooled in the cover of your Whisper White Craft ink stampin pad using a sponge dauber.
- After you’ve covered your card with circles, overlapping some as you’d like, gently rub off a bit of white ink with a paper towel or microfiber cloth.
- Tie a length of Fresh Freesia Open Weave ribbon around the mat and tie a bow.
- Adhere the mat to the card base.
- Adhere a piece of Foam Adhesive sheet to a small scrap of Fresh Freesia card stock. Cut out the letters to spell “Cheers” using the Playful Alphabet dies.
- Die cut a circle (about 2″) from a scrap of Basic White.
- On another scrap of Basic White use Memento Ink to stamp two cocktail glasses from the Nothing’s Better Than stamp set.
- Stamp the inside of the cocktail class with Fresh Freesia ink. Color the umbrella with Night of Navy and Fresh Freesia blends and fruit slice with Mango Melody Stampin’ Blends. Cut out with the corresponding die.
- Adhere the cocktail glasses to the circle
- Place (but do not adhere) the circle on the mat. Arrange the letters around the circle…adjusting the letter and circle as necessary to make it fit.
- Peel the release layer from the letters to adhere them in place and attach the circle with dimensionals.
- The inside of the card is stamped with “Hope your New Year is filled with promises of many bright tomorrows” from the A Wish For Everything Stamp set.
