Welcome to the Stampin’ Dreams Blog Hop. Today we are showcasing graduation cards. This is that time of the year. I love how easy it is to make a mortar board…that funny hat we insist that graduates wear!

This card can be made with minimal supplies. All you need is a square. You could cut your own tassel from card stock but luckily, Birthday Celebration dies has one that is easy to use. The strips of card stock in three different sizes add interest to the background. Of course, you would make the card in the colors of the graduating student. Since I live in New Hampshire, I went with the colors for the of New Hampshire. (It also happens to be my Alma Mater.)
instructions for mortar board graduation card1
- Cut a Blueberry Bushel card base 4 1/4″ x 11″ and score at 5 1/2″. Fold and burnish the score line,
- Cut a two Blueberry Bushel strips of card stock at 1/2″, one at 3/8″ and one at 1/4″.
- On one of the 1/2″ wide strips, heat emboss the word Congratulations in white. This one is from the Sunrise Sailing stamp set (as is the inside sentiment, too.)
- Adhere the four strips to the front of the card base. I prefer to cut my strips slightly wider than 5 1/4″ and then trim them after gluing.
- Die cut the square with the 1 7/8″ square using Blueberry Bushel card stock.
- Die cut one tassel in Basic White and adhere to the center of the square. Adhere a 3/8″ circle punched with the retired 3/8″ circle punch over it in the center. (Hang onto those circle punches. They come in so handy.)
- Pop the mortar board up on the largest Stylish Shapes circle die cut from Basic White. Pop that up on the front of the card as well.
- On the inside mat of Basic White cut 5 1/4″ x 4″, stamp “You are destined for great things” which is also from the Sunrise Sailing stamp set.
- Add several silver sequins from the Neutrals Adhesive Backed Sequins.
