What is something we all seem to have a lot of? Scraps! If you are like me, you hate to throw any of that pretty paper away! Last night I offered a free Zoom class through my Chat’n’Craft FB page. We had a lot of fun making cards that used up some of our scraps! Here are a couple of cards I made with square scraps….On one I cut the squares with the smallest square from Stitched Shapes dies. The other one I cut with my cutter. I love how all the little squares almost look like a quilt!
The first card we made in class used 6 strips of various patterned papers all cut 3/4″ x 4 “. These were adhered to a card mat that was 4″ x 5 1/4” and then adhered to a card base, after I wrapped a ribbon around the mat. The sentiment was put on a circle to provide contrast with the rectangles. Every one used their own scraps and the cards were all beautiful. A few people used only two patterns and alternated the two for a cute card front.
Here is the one that I made.
Here is the one that I made.
The second card used 1/2″ wide strips cut in various lengths and glued to a 3 3/4″ x 5 ” mat. The strips were glued with a small space in-between each one and with some strips laid at right angles to the others. I use a liquid glue for this…Tombow…as it gives you some wiggle room. All the strips hung off the edge of the card base….be sure to use a silicone mat under your card stock mat or you will glue your mat to your table/paper! (Ask me how I know!!) After you cover the mat with strips, turn it over and trim the strips to the size of the mat. This whole piece is then adhered to a second mat of the same color but just a bit bigger…..4″ x 5 1/4″. Then adhere the matted piece on a card base and you’ve got a card that used up lots of scraps! Here are two I did! The one on the left has 3/4″ strips and the one on the right uses 1/2″ strips. I like the smaller strips better!
Both of these layouts are easy to do with whatever paper scraps you have at home. They are fun to play with and you’ll be surprised at how quickly you have a card made! So get your scraps out today and start creating! You won’t be sorry!
Then pop the card in the mail and make someone very happy to receive a piece of personal mail!
Hope to chat’n’craft with you soon….probably via Zoom!
