Welcome to the December Ink & Inspiration Blog hop. Today we are all taking a sketch challenge. These are my favorite challenges as a sketch is just a jumping off point. We are free to interpret it however we are inspired.
Here’s the card I created.
This is the sketch that inspired my card.
As you can see, I couldn’t resist adding that Pool Party Gingham vellum behind the patterned papers. I chose to use three different papers as I love all the papers in this pack so much. The focal point is stamped and I think the torn edges are a nice contrast to all of the sharp lines with the other shapes. Of course, I had to scatter a few bees on the card as those bees are so stinking cute.
instructions for the floral delight happy birthday card
- Cut a Thick Basic White card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″.
- Cut a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of the Floral Delight & Gingham vellum and add an adhesive sheet to the back. Adhere to the card front.
- Cut your flowered patterned paper 1 3/4″ x 3 1/2″ and two 1 3/4″ squares in Old Olive and Pecan Pie patterned paper from the Floral Delight pack.
- Adhere the patterned papers as shown.
- On a piece of Basic White, approx 2 1/2″ x 3 1/2″, stamp the twig in Pecan Pie ink.
- Line up the background flower stamp as it is shown on the cover of the stamp case and practice lining it up by holding it over the twig on the front of the stamp case. (See the photos below)
- Stamp the flowers in Daffodil Delight. Then stamp the details in Crushed Curry also lining up the stamp as it is on the stamp case.
- Lastly, add the leaves in Old Olive ink.
- Carefully tear off the edges of the white paper and then pop it up on the front of the card.
- Ink only the “happy birthday” part of the Have a Happy Birthday stamp in Pecan Pie ink.
- Die cut with the label die. Then slide the die to the left of Happy and die cut again to shorten the label.
- Add it to the front with glue and dimensionals.
- Add three bumble bees by putting a small drop of glue where you’d like the bees.
- On the inside stamp a single flower in Daffodil Delight and add the detail by stamping in Crushed Curry.

- In Person – class will be held on the last Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm.
- By mail – Zoom will be held on the last Tuesday of the month at 3 pm. The class will be recorded and the replay available via YouTube if you can’t attend the class. You can substitute stamp sets or add the stamp set/punch to your order and use your own inks.
