Welcome to our October Creativity Abounds Blog Hop. This month our theme is Holidays with products from the September – December Mini Catalog. I have chosen to use the Decorative Tree bundle with a watercolor background.

The Decorative Trees are so versatile and look great even in pink and blue! This card has a background made with the watercolor “Smoosh” technique. Basically, I made a puddle of ink on my glass mat and pressed the watercolor paper into it to pick up the colors. The combination of Fresh Freesia and Misty Moonlight create a “frosty” look on the card. Of course, it was also splattered with Wink of Stella to give it that shimmer.
The trees have the added detail of embossed white details. Heat embossing is one of my very favorite techniques and I never tire of watching the powder melt.
instructions for the decorative trees Merry christmas
- Cut a Thick Basic White card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″.
- Cut the Fluid 100 Watercolor paper in half to 5″ x 3 1/2″.
- Watch the video to see how to complete the watercolor smooshing technique using Fresh Freesia and Misty Moonlight.
- When completely dry, adhere the watercolor background to a Misty Moonlight mat cut 3 3/4″ x 4 3/4″.
- Center and adhere the mat on the card base.
- Stamp the “evergreen lines” with VersaMark ink on a 3″ x 4″ piece of Misty Moonlight, Basic White, and Fresh Freesia. Sprinkle with WOW! White embossing powder and melt with your heat tool.
- Die cut each tree with the tree die.
- Adhere the Basic White tree to the center of the watercolor piece. Use dimensionals to add the Fresh Freesia tree and Misty Moonlight tree.
- Stamp the sentiment in VersaMark on a 1/2″ x 3″ strip of Misty Moonlight and emboss with white embossing powder.
- Splatter Wink of Stella over the card by tapping it on your Take Your Pick tool.
- Embellish with 3 Silver gems from the Adhesive Backed Metallic gems.
Watch a video to see how the watercolor “smooshing’ technique was completed to make this background.

What a simple yet stunning card Lorraine.
Thanks, Sara!
Such a Stunning card Lorraine!
Thank you!
The “smooshing” background is so much fun!
It sure is!
Great card, Lorraine! I love inky smooshiness in a card and I think this colour combination is super. While it’s not totally straightforward, it’s simple enough that someone could make a stack of them with relative ease and it’s always good to have some of those ideas tucked away. :-)
Thank you, Jan.
