The Crafty Collaborations Team is comprised of Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators from around the world. Each month we participate in several collaborative projects, including Blog Hops, like this one, to inspire all of us in our passion for crafting. Our goal is to create, share, and inspire every crafter to keep our creative energy flowing.
Today I am taking part in a color challenge. The task was to use the following 3 colors on a card. I created this Color & Contour Color Challenge Card.
Because I just recently started playing with using Stampin’ Blends and Alcohol on vellum, I decided to use this technique. I started with a slightly larger than card front sized piece of vellum and the two Stampin’ Blends available in the challenge colors- Dark Real Red and Dark Bermuda Bay.
To make this background, color some small “spots” of both colors randomly on the vellum and then spray the vellum well with 91% Alcohol in your Stampin’ Spritzer. The colors will not immediately begin to run, so use a straw to “blow” the liquid around a bit. Then dry the vellum with your heat tool. Add more color to areas that look too white. Repeat the process of “moving” the ink around with a straw and drying with the heat tool until you are pleased.
I love how mixing the Real Red and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Blends seemed to create other shades…pink, purple and even a bit of peach. This mixture of colors looked perfect to me. It was really pretty easy to create a beautiful background. Moving the ink with a straw and heat drying in-between layers seemed to be key steps.
I brought Coastal Cabana, the third color of the challenge, into the card with the card base and frame. I hope you will give this card a try at home!
Instructions for Color & Contour Card
- Cut a Coastal Cabana card base 4 1/4″ x 11″ and score at 5 1/2″.
- Cut a Coastal Cabana mat 5 1/4″ x 4″ and use the third largest Stitched Rectangle die to cut out the center of the mat.
- Trim the vellum to 5 1/4″ x 4″ and adhered it to a 5 1/4″ x 4″ piece of Basic White card stock with glue dots around the perimeter.
- Use dimensionals to adhere the frame to the over the vellum.
- On a scrap of Basic White, stamp the outline flower with Coastal Cabana ink twice. Then use the “fill in” stamp to fill in these images, inking your stamp only once to stamp both. Cut the flowers out with the corresponding die.
- Stamp the “You are amazing” in Coastal Cabana ink on a scrap of Basic White and cut out with the 2nd smallest Stitched So Sweetly dies.
- Adhere your flowers and sentiment to the front, lower right hand corner.
- Add 3 rhinestones for a bit of shine!
- Add a 5 1/4″ x 4″ mat to the inside to write your message.
