Welcome to the Technique Tuesday Blog Hop. We are here to share a technique with you each month. Today we are focusing on the Collage or Retiform techniques. I have chosen to do Collage and make a couple of Birthday cards.

This was my first Collage Happy Birthday card. I embraced the “collage” aspect wholeheartedly and pulled from several stamp sets….Delicate Forest, Sketched Butterflies, Latte Love, Seaside Wishes, and Racing By. My ink colors were Pebbled Path, Boho Blue, and Crushed Curry.
First, I wanted a random shape I could stamp all over. The rings from the Latte Love were perfect for this. Then I wanted a fairly large image that could be a focal point- butterflies! I love a silhouette image in a collage as well, hence the trees. Next, I wanted a couple of small items birds and speckles to fill in spaces. I also stamped several times without reinking when stamping the butterflies and trees.
Although it seems a bit backwards, it worked to do the smaller stamping first and put the larger images over the busy background. I’d love to hear how you would approach a collage. Let me know if a comment.

After I finished the first card I realized that if I started with a smaller piece of white, it would feel less overwhelming. So here’s my second Collage Happy Birthday card. Almost all of the stamps for this card are from the Happiest Day stamp set. My ink colors were Pretty in Pink, Peach Pie, Smoky Slate and Balmy Blue.
I used the sunshine rays and the sun “dot” as my shapes to stamp all over. The dragonfly is my focal image and then I used speckles (from the Seaside Wishes stamp set) to fill in the spaces. It was definitely easier when using a smaller “canvas.”
I love Peach Pie paired with Balmy Blue. It feels like a fresh, summery day to me! A bit of ribbon and a popped up sentiment complete the card front. On the inside, I added a sun and the “sparkles” from the Happiest Day set. These could have been used in place of the speckles on the front- but I didn’t think of it then.
