Welcome to the Technique Squad blog hop. Today we are featuring the technique called Watercolor Wash. This is a fun and easy technique that I encourage you to try. No two backgrounds you create will ever be the same but I guarantee that you will feel like an artist and have fun creating them.
Here’s the card I created using the Country Birdhouse bundle. This bundle has images, sentiments and amazing flowers.

The bird, the cute leaves and the little flowers are all from the Country Birdhouse dies. The sentiment is my favorite from the Country Birdhouse stamp camp. It can pair with the other sentiments in the set so easily.
instructions for Best day Ever water color wash
- Cut a Thick White card base 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ and score at 4 1/4″. Fold and burnish.
- Adhere a Pool Party mat cut 5 1/4″ x 4″ to the front of the card base.
- On a half sheet of Fluid 100 Watercolor paper ( 3 1/2″ x 5″), use the widest water painter to add a layer of water.
- Pick up Azure Afternoon ink from a block or your reinker dipped onto a block and dilute it with water. With lots of water, spread it across the top half of the watercolor paper. Add more ink or more water to make the “wash” lighter or darker, respectively.
- Use the same process to add Pool Party ink to the bottom half of the water color paper.
- Let the watercolor paper dry completely or dry with your heat tool.
- Adhere a strip of Country Woods DSP to the front- cutting it to the width of the Pool Party stripe and the gray wood.
- Add two leaves cut from Shy Shamrock card stock, one leaf from Pool Party, and flowers from Azure Afternoon and Boho Blue.
- Stamp the bird in Memento ink on a scrap of white and watercolor with Azure Afternoon and Pool Party.
- On the inside of the card, stamp Hello Friend and a bird.
- Add several Flat Adhesive backed pearls.
